The 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is a family mid-size SUV, coming to the markets later in 2021. It’s an elegant, practical, and comfy model. This three-row SUV has a lot to offer and comes in a range of trim levels to appeal to as large an audience as possible. Although the basic engine is a V6, the Highlander is one of the few three-row SUVs that have an optional hybrid powertrain. Both powertrains are available with both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive setups. Toyota will introduce a couple of important updates. That includes additional safety features and a new infotainment system.
Choose one of the Highlander’s upper trim levels and you’ll get a lot of luxury. The range-topping trim can easily rival other luxury models such as Lexus SUVs. On the other hand, Highlander Hybrid can’t compete with rivals in terms of handling. Indeed, this SUV comes with a pleasant ride and great acceleration. However, competitors such as Mazda CX-9 and Kia Telluride are much easier to drive.
2022 Highlander Hybrid Exterior Changes
The all-new 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid won’t introduce major updates. Whatsoever, most of this SUV will largely remain. Still, Toyota will introduce a new Hybrid Bronze Edition model. This version comes with exterior paint options of Cement or Wind Chill Pearl and 18-inch bronze-colored wheels.
All other trim levels are unchanged. This means the Highlander SUV will continue to look modern and aggressive. The rear part comes with unique windswept taillamps and a sportier bumper. Speaking of sportiness, the XSE trim level is the sportiest model you can get.
On the inside, the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will receive some distinctive design elements and, such as geometric-patterned upholstery and a new shape of the air vents. The Bronze Edition comes with bronze-colored trim and lighted bronze-colored doorsill guards. In addition, XLE and higher trim levels now include a height-adjustable power seat for the front passenger.
The Highlander, on the other hand, remains unchanged until 2022. This means the comfort remains at a high level and safety ratings are very good. Highlander Hybrid comes with more standard features and there will be room for seven occupants inside the cabin.
Regular Highlander will once again use a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with 295 hp. An eight-speed automated transmission and available with either front- or all-wheel drive. On the other hand, the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid deploys a smaller 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. This output provides a total of 243 horsepower.
This variant has a continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT) with the option of front- or all-wheel drive. This variant comes with slightly worse acceleration, but fuel efficiency is significantly better. The regular V6 engine delivers 29 mpg on the highway and Highlander Hybrid 35 mpg on the highway.
2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Price, Release Date
The price of the upcoming 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will start at $41,000. The base L trim level is available for $37,000, so the hybrid variant is not expensive. If you want the brand-new Hybrid Bronze Edition, you’ll have to pay $44,000. Toyota will launch a new Highlander SUV in the last quarter of 2021.
