Interestingly, Taycan Turismo is a model with one of the shortest development periods ever. The concept from 2018 looked promising and now this variant is coming alive. According to Porsche, this variant undergoes a series of tests in a virtual environment.
Thanks to that, the process is much cheaper and the production is faster. The spy photos are already available, which comes as no surprise. You are probably wondering why we call the new 2022 Porsche Taycan Gran Turismo a station wagon. It’s because it is a station wagon. Yes, the original Taycan is a sedan, but this all-electric variant comes in a different body style. And while the design language is basically the same, the Gran Turismo model departs from the Taycan sedan in some ways.
For a start, Gran Turismo comes with a swoopy roofline. On top of that, this variant delivers tweaked suspension and more ground clearance. Cargo capacity is slightly bigger but Gran Turismo is also a heavier vehicle than the original sedan.
The original concept comes with four seats. However, the new 2022 Porsche Taycan Gran Turismo comes with either 2+2 or a five-seat layout. Novelty is the start button on the left side of the steering wheel. Furthermore, Gran Turismo offers a premium cabin design with great comfort and plenty of high-tech features.
There is a digital gauge cluster, a 10.3-inch touchscreen that sits in the middle of the dash, and a vertically-oriented 8.4-inch touchscreen in the center console. Porsche will also introduce a 10.3-inch passenger-side display, Wi-Fi, and various driver-assistance aids. This station wagon offers more cargo room than the Taycan sedan and it also comes with very useful cubby storage.
Power and Driving Range
The brand-new 2022 Porsche Taycan Gran Turismo will be a very powerful station wagon that runs on an all-electric powertrain. The platform is shared with the sedan variant, but Gran Turismo will be a much better option. An all-wheel-drive system should be offered as standard. However, Porsche is reportedly working on a rear-wheel-drive model as well. There are two electric motors and this combo develops 522 horsepower in the base version. If you want a more powerful variant, Turbo S trim will provide up to 750 horsepower.
A two-speed automatic transmission is available, something we are seeing for the first time in the electric vehicle. The Turbo S variant will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds. Furthermore, most of the electric vehicles are getting slower as their battery drains, but not this one. Porsche also promises improved handling, which is great. Lastly, an 800-volt architecture provides fast charging, and you can charge this model from 5 to 80 percent in just 23 minutes. Driving range is rated at about 300 miles.
2022 Porsche Taycan Gran Turismo Release Date, Price
From what we know, the new 2022 Porsche Taycan Gran Turismo will cost over $100,000. However, the manufacturer prepares a cheaper variant that will use a rear-wheel-drive setup. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2021, or at the beginning of 2022.
