The brand-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS is an all-electric sedan that will go on sale later this year. It is basically a more spacious S-Class model that is also quieter. The EQS model will arrive with an amazing digital grille and very futuristic styling cues. Of course, the idea started with the Vision EQS concept so Mercedes will surely deliver a lot of exciting things.
However, translating the concept to the production version is not an easy task. Anyway, it is an luxury EV with great performances and an impressive driving range. Many reports are calling it the “Tesla slayer” as it comes with amazing design and a lot of luxury. Still, luxury is not everything, so here’s everything we know about this new model.
2022 Mercedes EQS Design
The manufacturer will draw design inspiration from the original concept. First spy shots of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB are showing some exciting things. The design looks more conservative, with a smaller grille and the beltline that looks more raked. The rear section seems taller so the production model is slightly less imposing than the original concept.
Interestingly, Mercedes opted for the regular B-pillars and side mirrors, something the concept didn’t show. As for the architecture, Mercedes opted for the EVA2 platform. The EQC crossover and EQS sedan will use the same underpinnings and an all-wheel-drive system will be offered as standard.
Futuristic Interior
The upcoming 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS will offer a very premium interior. The German carmaker decided to deliver a flat floor and longer wheelbase. Thanks to that, EQS is more spacious than the S-Class model. The floating center console is a must and an even larger sunroof is available. Expect a lot of high-quality materials and plenty of luxury.
The cargo area is generous and EQS also offers the front trunk. In terms of tech, we don’t know what Mercedes plans to offer. Without any doubt, the manufacturer will deliver a lot of high-tech amenities, including the latest driver-assistance aids.
Driving Range, Acceleration
As for the performances, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS will be very impressive. As we said, the all-wheel-drive is standard but exact specs are not available yet. Mercedes presented the EQS concept with 469 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque, which is a lot for a sedan. According to Merc, the EQS model will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in around 4.1 seconds.
The platform is new and reportedly, this architecture will provide an amazing level of comfort. The ride is quiet as with any other EV. In terms of driving range, this model will offer almost 450 miles on a single charge. A 100-kWh battery pack is available and it should provide more miles than Tesla. However, nothing is official yet.
2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS Launch Date, Price
The production is about to start in the Mercedes factory in Germany. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS will become the first model from the EQ sub-brand and it will be sold in the United States. The price will start at around $95,000. There will be a couple of trim levels, so the upper trims will surely cost above $100k. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2021 or in the first quarter of 2022.
