2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Will Arrive Next Year

New Gladiator pickup will introduce a couple of upgrades. However, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid is the most exciting model. As you know, Jeep offered only gasoline engine in the first year of production. The second-year brings optional diesel and now hybrid powertrain is on the cards. Gladiator offers so many trim levels, from base variant to models such as Mojave and Rubicon.

Now, the hybrid variant is in the works and we believe this will be the most popular buying option. At this moment, we don’t know in which trim level Jeep plans to offer hybrid power. Without further ado, here’s what we know at the moment.

2022 Gladiator 4xe Design

The upcoming 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid won’t depart from the regular model. This means the hybrid version will get the same updates as the rest of the trim levels. Jeep doesn’t plan to introduce drastic cosmetic upgrades so the 2022 Gladiator will generally remain the same.

We could expect more equipment and small changes on variants such as Mojave or Rubicon, but that’s about it. Jeep offers various trim levels so you can choose from the subtle-looking base model to the sporty and more aggressive variants. Still, exterior upgrades are unlikely for 2022MY.

Performances

This pickup truck offers a base 3.6-liter Pentastar gasoline engine. This engine offers six-speed manual transmission as standard, and ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. The optional 3.0-liter EcoDiesel has just become available in the 2021MY and it delivers more torque. Now, Jeep is expanding its lineup of powertrains with a plug-in hybrid version.

From what we know, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid will use a 2.0-liter turbo engine with a dual-motor setup. Jeep admitted that the sales are going downhill because of emissions regulations. Hybrid is the only option left and we can expect an all-electric variant in the next two years.

Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Specs

Gladiator is a pickup based on the Wrangler SUV. Thanks to that, the new 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid will most likely borrow the hybrid system from its SUV sibling. Wrangler 4xe variant is available in a four-door body style from Sahara trim level and above. Jeep claims 25 miles of all-electric driving range. The first motor serves for propulsion and the second one as a motor-generator.

Wrangler is using a 17-kWh battery that sits under the second row of seats. The most powerful Wrangler delivers 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, so hybrid delivers more torque than the diesel engine. The exact specs for the Gladiator 4xe are not available yet, but we expect to see similar performance figures.

2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid Price, Release Date

While the base trim level costs $33,500, the new 2022 Jeep Gladiator 4xe Plug-In Hybrid will surely cost more. We expect for the price to start at about $40,000, which isn’t good news. Anyway, this is not official yet. However, the production will begin in the coming weeks and this hybrid mid-size pickup will hit the markets in the first quarter of 2022.
