All-New 2022 Jaguar XJ Goes Electric

The upcoming 2022 Jaguar XJ will be the next-gen model. That means the new XJ will host a lot of significant updates. However, Jaguar won’t deliver anything revolutionary. The XJ car will continue to offer traditional looks with the brand’s recognizable design language. However, Jaguar will ditch two gasoline engines in favor of electric powertrain.

The exterior will be changed, but not drastically. Moreover, the interior will provide more luxury in order to keep XJ competitive. Exact performance details are not available yet, but some reports are suggesting a lot of power. The XJ model won’t come cheap, and it will go on sale at some point in 2021.

Is Jaguar XJ a Good Car?

While the manufacturers are opting for more futuristic design, new 2022 Jaguar XJ will get a more traditional design. Whatsoever, a new model will look more conventional than the new I-Pace. Jaguar will take full advantage of short overhangs and provide a very spacious cabin.

The spy shots are available, and the first thing we notice is the long front end. However, the most drastic change is the presence of the hatch that replaces a trunk lid. Thanks to that, a new sedan will arrive with a sportier appearance. On top of that, the new model definitely looks more attractive than its predecessor.

2022 Jaguar XJ Interior

Interior details are not available yet. However, the manufacturer did say something about a new cabin design. The 2022 Jaguar XJ will be a luxurious model with a quiet cabin and a high level of comfort. Jaguar said the new XJ wouldn’t be too flashy and not overly expensive. However, the interior is very premium, and Jaguar also said the XJ would offer a better cabin than the Mercedes-Benz EQS.

This is an exciting approach as Mercedes is focused on comfort. Moreover, Porsche Taycan delivers a sportier cabin, and the focus is on the performances. The XJ will be the next-gen model so the customers should expect more dramatic updates on the inside.

Engine Specs

The XJ sedan won’t share a platform with the I-Pace model. These rumors are false. Instead, the 2022 Jaguar XJ will be built on the company’s Modular Longitudinal Architecture. A rear-wheel-drive architecture is designed to accommodate literally everything. That includes conventional engines, mild-hybrid setup and the plug-in hybrid configurations. However, in 2022 XJ will feature an all-electric powertrain.

Jaguar will offer a variety of battery sizes and motor configurations. At this moment, we don’t know exact vehicle’s specs. On the other hand, the range-topping model will surely arrive with a 100-kW-hr battery and four electric motors. An all-wheel-drive setup will be offered as standard and XJ will produce almost 800 horsepower. Hopefully, this sedan will provide a greater driving range than the I-Pace model.

2022 Jaguar XJ Release Date and Price

The next-gen 2022 Jaguar XJ will arrive by the end of 2021. It is too early to tell the exact pricing details. Even the trim levels are not available at the moment.

Of course, the price will be higher than the previous XJ with a gasoline engine. For that reason, we expect a new sedan to cost around $90,000.
