The upcoming 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid is a five-seat SUV and one of the brand’s best-selling models. Thanks to its hybrid powertrain, Santa Fe is a very fuel-efficient model and generally, performances are great. Interestingly, Santa Fe is larger than its rivals in the compact crossover segment.
However, it is smaller than the mid-size models such as Hyundai Palisade. Of course, Hyundai offers both hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, but the PHEV variant is definitely a more popular option at the moment. The sales will begin later in 2021 and here’s everything about the new Santa Fe PHEV model and its latest changes and updates.
2022 Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid Design
For a start, the new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid won’t depart from other trim levels in terms of design. This is a good thing as Santa Fe looks better than ever before. As you know, this crossover was redesigned last year. Because of that, we don’t expect to see major upgrades. The 2022 model will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels, while the Limited trim will offer 19-inch rims as standard.
Santa Fe looks very attractive, despite its compact dimensions. New exterior colors are a possibility, but this is just another rumor we read recently. Some minor updates will definitely happen, but we won’t see essential changes or exciting novelties.
Premium Interior Design
The interior of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid also won’t depart from the rest of the lineup. Hyundai changed its approach recently and now the brand’s interiors are much more upscale. A cabin with a 12.3-inch driver information display and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen is the best answer to its rivals. On top of that, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is available as well. The cabin still wears soft-touch plastics but the plastic materials are looking surprisingly upright.
However, if you want real luxury, you’ll have to opt for upper trim levels such as Limited. Interestingly, none of the trim levels are offering a gear leveler. Instead, Hyundai opted for a shift-by-wire setup that frees up more space. The updates are minimal, so we only expect to see new safety aids and updated infotainment.
Power, Transmission, MPG
The forthcoming 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid will use a 1.6-liter turbo-four gasoline engine. This unit works in combination with an electric motor and a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Total output is rated at 260 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Hyundai offers a six-speed automatic transmission, so the CVT gearbox is not in the offer like in some other hybrid vehicles. The all-wheel-drive system comes as standard and Santa Fe PHEV delivers 33 mpg combined. On top of that, this compact crossover offers 30 miles of all-electric range.
2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid Price, Release Date
The price of the all-new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid will start at about $35,000. The sales will reportedly begin this July. However, the latest reports are suggesting a different launch date, possibly around November. This compact crossover will rival models such as Ford Escape PHEV and Toyota RAV4 Prime.
