2021 Volkswagen ID 4X Crozz is an all-electric crossover, and in terms of dimensions, sits somewhere between Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace. The upcoming Crozz is based on the Group’s scalable MEB architecture for the EVs.
However, the German company did not provide info regarding the engine room. We believe that the two electric motors will be able to produce around 300 hp.

2021 Volkswagen ID 4X Crozz Design and Spy Shots
2021 Volkswagen ID 4X Crozz delivers a bit of more traditional form language, with a higher roofline and conventional doors at the rear end. When the concept was presented to the audience, it shows a more coupe-like shape. Still, the photos we had a chance to look at recently, reveals that the EV will use the MEB platform. This platform includes a flat battery on the floor and an electric drive system at the axles. The engineers took advantage of not having the motor in the front and made the overhang very short, while the hood is shallow as well.
Moreover, the base of the windshield is moved forward a bit and tapers back at a sharp angle. As a result, the smooth, streamlined shape is established. Also, unlike the coupe-like Crozz prototype, the production-ready SUV carries features like a flat roof and regularly-looking tailgate. On top of that, you’ll see even a roof-mounted spoiler.
Still, we expect to see some design cues from the ID 3 model, as well. The 2021 Crozz will probably borrow the closed grille treatment and slim LED taillights on the backside. Moreover, the semi-autonomous driver-assist will be available, providing Level 2 or Level 3 autonomous driving capability.

What About Engine?
The German company didn’t offer too much info regarding the engine room of 2021 Volkswagen ID 4X Crozz. However, we expect to see a similar setup to the VW ID 3 model. The all-electric hatchback works with batter sizes 45/58/77 kWh and a single electric motor. That combination produces 205 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. The WLTP driving ranges of the battery are 205/260/341 miles, respectively.
But, we assume that the EPA figures will come in lower. The main plan of the company is to produce an electric vehicle with around 300 hp and 300 miles of driving range. The VW Groups’ MEB platform is famous for the excellent handling of fast-charging. For example, the ID Crozz will be able to recover 80% of its charge for only half of hour, using a 150-kW DC charger.
2021 Volkswagen ID 4X Crozz Release Date
The VW Group won’t rush with the release date. There is still plenty to do, many testing hours on the road, to try and improve any issues. However, we expect to see the new Crozz sometimes next year. Perhaps the Geneva Motor Show is a perfect place for a debut.
Likewise, the ID 3 will make a debut on the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. But, keep in mind that the order will probably begin a few months later. The sales for Europe should start by the end of 2020. The US customers will get their EVs in Q1 of 2021.
