Toyota intended to reveal its new model in March, but the Coronavirus outbreak forced Toyota to reschedule its debut. It is a brand-new crossover based on the Yaris hatchback. In our opinion, the Yaris Cross looks better than the Toyota C-HR, and generally, the impressions are very positive.
The crossover will ride on the same platform as the hatchback variant, and even the styling is the same. A hybrid powertrain should be a highlight of the 2021 model. 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Uses Extended Platform
The upcoming 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross will be smaller than the C-HR model. It will ride on the same architecture as the Yaris hatchback. Of course, the crossover will get an extended platform as Yaris Cross will be 164.5 inches long. On top of that, this model is 61.6 inches tall and 69.5 inches wide. That means Yaris Cross will become Toyota’s smallest crossover so far.
Design perfectly combines funky vibe with modern and sharper body lines. The base trim level won’t offer impressive features so we’d recommend you to skip the entry-level Yaris Cross. The mid-grade trims are a much better option. You will get standard LED headlights, a two-tone exterior color scheme and larger 18-inch alloy wheels. Yaris Cross will look stylish, and the rear part provides a sportier look.
Interior Looks Modern
The all-new 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross will offer a unique interior with plenty of modern features. We think everything on the inside looks upright and stylish. Whatsoever, crossover definitely looks more premium than its hatchback sibling. The center console sits deeper in the cabin so the front occupants will get slightly more legroom. The dashboard sports various gloss black trims and plastic materials.
Metallic air vents are amazing, along with standard and optional displays. The rear seats are not offering ample legroom, and taller passengers could have a problem during the longer trips. Even the headroom is far from impressive, but this is a very small crossover after all. There will be room for five occupants, and comfort is very good. Lastly, we strongly recommend optional ambient interior lighting that looks very premium and impressive.
2021 Toyota Yaris Cross Engine Specs
As we said, the highlight of the 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross is its hybrid powertrain. Still, the regular variant will deploy a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. If you want a hybrid powertrain, you won’t regret it. It is a system that combines a three-cylinder engine with the electric motor and battery pack. Total output is rated at 116 horsepower, and the AWD setup will be optional on entry-level trim levels.
Toyota will provide both six-speed manual and CVT gearbox options. The base model will use a front-wheel-drive system, just like the Yaris hatchback. More details will be released in the coming weeks. We are especially interested in fuel efficiency figures.
Price and Release Date
The forthcoming 2021 Toyota Yaris Cross will be sold in Europe, but its arrival in the U.S. won’t happen in 2021. Moreover, the Yaris Cross will become available in Japan as well. The price will start at around $25,000, and Yaris Cross will compete with Renault Captur and the new Ford Puma.
