The latest spy shots are confirming the stories about a complete redesign of the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. However, the same stories are suggesting a redesign but only for the China-Spec Corolla. We don’t know if the global model will get the same changes or it will be another carryover model. Corolla is a small car known for its tradition and it is one of the best-selling nameplates in the world.
It is also a durable car and hybrid variant boost the fuel economy even more. However, the customers in the United States are giving up on small cars and are focusing on crossovers and SUVs. Available in both hatchback and sedan variants, Corolla is ready to go on sale this fall with a fresh design and a very modern interior.
2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Will Get Sharper Headlights
When we say fresh design, it means the 2020 model already arrived with significant visual changes. However, the latest reports are suggesting a redesign for the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid in China. The latest spy shots are showing exactly that. However, we don’t know if the already new global Corolla model will get the same upgrades. Corolla is available in both hatchback and sedan versions. The sedan is slightly longer version but two models are sharing the same platform.
The front fascia will get sharper headlights with LED lighting system. The upper grille looks a lot sleeker and Toyota’s logo is removed. The grille has been revised and it will wear new gloss black elements. Bumper looks edgier and overall, front part definitely looks more stylish. The rear part comes with taillights that are connected with a single strip. If you want more sportiness, you should go for the SE or XSE trim levels with larger 18-inch wheels.
Inner Styling
The interior of the 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid will surely gain some updates. However, we don’t expect any major changes on the inside. The only updates should happen in terms of high-tech features and driver-assistance systems. Corolla’s interior looks kind of minimalistic. Moreover, the design looks clean and it sports plenty of horizontal lines. The dashboard is dominated by a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and it looks modern.
All other trim levels are offering an 8-inch unit. Corolla Hybrid supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa systems. All of the systems are easy to use and we like the knobs for volume and climate control. The instrument cluster is relatively new and Toyota will provide more than enough soft-touch surfaces and materials. The L and LE trims are offering a standard cloth upholstery and upper trims are available with SofTex leatherette upholstery.
2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Engine
You can have a regular Corolla model with either 1.8-liter or 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. However, the highlight is the hybrid version. The 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is using the same 1.8-liter gasoline engine in a combination with the 53 kW electric motor. Together, this output provides 121 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque.
More importantly, fuel economy has been rated at 52 mpg combined. To compare, regular 1.8-liter provides 34 mpg combined and optional 2.0-liter 32 miles per gallon. A hybrid variant is available with a CVT transmission while conventional engines are offering both manual and automatic transmissions.
Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is available in a single trim level only. Based on the LE trim, the hybrid version starts at $24,000. It is an affordable price as the regular LE costs only $3,000 less. The Japanese manufacturer will release its new model later this year, most likely this fall.
