The forthcoming 2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid will offer more than before. The sixth-gen Outback will provide more refinements and a higher level of comfort. A hybrid powertrain is a highlight and Subaru will work on a more rigid platform that can accommodate hybrid technology. However, the architecture is the same as before but it will be modified.
Outback will also deliver better off-road capability and much more. As you know, Toyota purchased shares in Subaru and the company will take advantage of Toyota’s technology. Highlander is one perfect example to follow. Moreover, RAV4 is the first model in its class that offered over 40 mpg. For that reason, a new Outback Hybrid will be more similar to one of the mentioned models.
2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid Outside Look
New 2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid won’t depart from the base model. On top of that, the new version won’t get such significant changes. That means the design is mostly a carryover. However, small exterior refinements will happen. For a start, this SUV will get new taillights that are similar to the taillights on the Forester model.
The grille is slightly larger and headlights are finished in a different shape. Outback Hybrid will provide 8.7-inches of ground clearance. On the other hand, the biggest change will happen beneath the shell. Subaru will modify its Global Platform and new modular design will be able to accommodate a hybrid system.
Interior Technology
The interior will be improved, that is for sure. The upcoming 2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid will gain plenty of technology updates and more than that. The Japanese manufacturer plans to raise the level of comfort with new and more upscale materials. Outback will provide around 30 cubes of space and with rear seats folded flat, almost 76.0 cubic feet.
The customers will surely like a new 7.0-inch touchscreen with a better interface and quicker response. Subaru will also deliver more driver-assistance features such as active lane control, auto emergency braking, and driver fatigue monitoring system. Upper trim levels will get an even larger display with automatic climate controls and leather upholstery.
2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid Engine
We don’t know which engine will power the hybrid variant. Still, there aren’t many options for the new 2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid SUV. 2.5-liter flat-four gasoline is the most likely outcome. It can deliver 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. This is a standard engine in the regular Outback variant. However, Outback Hybrid will provide more power thanks to the electric motors.
On top of that, expect over 35 mpg combined. Some reports are even suggesting an optional 3.6-liter flat-six with 255 hp and 250 lb-ft of twisting power. With this engine, Outback Hybrid will generate up to 300 horsepower. Lastly, a CVT transmission is very likely to happen. Subaru will release official details in the coming weeks.
Price and Release Date
The price of the base trim level starts at $26,000. That means the all-new 2021 Subaru Outback Hybrid will cost slightly above $30,000.
This SUV will go on sale later in 2020 if everything goes according to plan. If the COVID-19 outbreak forces Subaru to reschedule events, then Outback will hit the markets at some point in 2021.
