The upcoming 2021 Range Rover Velar is about to arrive with significant refreshments. And while the exterior changes are limited, the interior will get more drastic upgrades. However, the biggest change will happen under the hood. The 2021 Velar will use a plug-in hybrid technology from now on. A hybrid powertrain will improve fuel efficiency and it will offer 33 miles of electric range.
The luxury SUV will also benefit from the new Pivi infotainment system and additional safety features. Land Rover will deliver a couple of new amenities as well. Overall, it is a complete upgrade for this SUV, although we’d like to see further cosmetic improvements.
2021 Range Rover Velar Exterior
The all-new 2021 Range Rover Velar will gain small exterior updates. Complete styling is based on the R-Dynamic SE trim level and is offered in the Lantau Bronze metallic exclusive color. Of course, you can buy one of the optional exterior paints such as Santorini Black, Portofino Blue, Eiger Grey, and Hakuba Silver. The luxury SUV is equipped with impressive 20-inch black wheels and black contrast roof.
The front fascia sports slim LED headlights, while LED Matrix headlamps are optional. The black honeycomb mesh grille looks extremely sporty and aggressive. However, all of these features are already present on the current model. New Velar will arrive with small hood modifications and new 21-inch optional wheels.
The interior of the 2021 Range Rover Velar will get more drastic improvements. The current model already offers a very pleasant cabin but the new Velar will introduce further refreshments. For a start, this SUV will get a new three-spoke steering wheel. Moreover, a new pair of 10-inch touchscreens are available and are sitting on the center console.
The latest version of the Pivi infotainment system is also in the offer. The steering wheel will host buttons for Driver Assistance while the infotainment will get a couple of new integrations. That includes Terrain Response and Terrain Response 2 control. Thanks to that, the number of physical buttons is reduced to a minimum.
2021 Range Rover Velar Comes With Various Engines
The most significant upgrade for 2021 is the all-new mild-hybrid powertrain option. The 2021 Range Rover Velar will offer various engines. Conventional outputs such as 3.0-liter diesel with 295 hp and two gasoline units with 355 and 395 hp are still available. However, the new hybrid variant is the most efficient. Velar will deploy a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine in combination with a 141-hp electric motor.
Total output is rated at 398 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that, the plug-in hybrid variant will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. A 17.1 kWh lithium-ion battery is also available and it provides 33 miles of pure electric driving range. Land Rover is yet to announce more specific details.
Price and Release Date
Significant changes will surely increase the price of the approaching 2021 Range Rover Velar. The regular Velar variant will start at $58,500 or £46,000. That is a minor jump in terms of price but the plug-in hybrid variant will cost even more, above $62,000. The sales will begin by the end of 2020 and before that, Land Rover should release further details about its new luxury SUV.
