2021 Opel Mokka Electric Spied Testing

New 2021 Opel Mokka Electric has been spied testing. Opel started with teasing with the camouflaged Mokka that mostly departs from its predecessor. We are not talking about design only. Instead, Opel will provide new architecture, and even the name will be different.

A fresh batch of spy photos shows a small crossover with a sharper look that is closer to the GT X Experimental concept. Mokka will deploy a new platform and an all-electric powertrain. Moreover, the interior will be entirely digital. This small crossover will go on sale in the third quarter of 2020.

The manufacturer released a new set of photos, but heavy camouflage leaves plenty of details to the imagination. Some parts of the 2021 Opel Mokka Electric are completely hidden. However, we can quickly notice the different shape of the crossover. The design looks sharper so Mokka now looks closer to the GT X Experimental concept.

New underpinnings are here. It is a platform developed by Opel’s new parent company – PSA Peugeot Citroen. The CMP architecture will bring Mokka Electric closer to the Peugeot 2008. Moreover, this crossover will be 260 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. Thanks to that, Opel will provide increased torsional rigidity, which results in better ride quality.

First Look Inside

New 2021 Opel Mokka Electric will feature a new interior design. Opel released new interior images yesterday. The new cabin comes with a flat-bottom steering wheel. Moreover, displays are now horizontal and larger. Still, the biggest novelty is the number of buttons that is now minimal.

Opel opted for a “fully digitalized” interior, so the absence of regular buttons is reasonable. No doubt, this crossover will benefit from a digital instrument cluster and a larger touchscreen. As for the interior design, expect a Corsa-like look with room more room for the passengers.

2021 Opel Mokka Electric Motor Specs

The all-electric version is in the works at the moment. Opel wants to prioritize the EV model thanks to its zero-emissions character. The Opel Mokka Electric will rely on an electric motor with 136 horsepower and a 50-kWh battery pack. The battery provides almost 200 miles of driving range.

Charging time will be the same as with the Peugeot e-2008 version. According to Opel, Mokka Electric will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 8.7 seconds. Regular Mokka will continue with its 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine. This engine is available in three different outputs with 100, 130 and 155 hp. Lastly, there is an optional 1.5-liter diesel with 100 and 130 horses.

Price and Release Date

The price of the approaching 2021 Opel Mokka Electric is not available yet. However, this version will cost more than the regular model and should start at the same price as Peugeot e-2008. That means we can expect for Mokka Electric to start at around $35,000.

This small crossover will make its debut within months, and the sales will begin early in 2021. Once it arrives, 2021 Opel Mokka Electric will rival Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia e-Niro, MG ZS EV and even models from Peugeot and DS.
