2021 Kia Stonic Is the New Mild-Hybrid Urban Hatchback

So many things are happening at Kia in the last couple of months. That is perhaps the reason why we forgot the upcoming 2021 Kia Stonic. It is a subcompact crossover that is actually doing very well. Kia sold over 150,000 examples in Europe since its introduction in 2017. However, that won’t stop Kia from additionally improving the crossover with the latest changes and upgrades.

Redesign won’t happen, and Stonic will gain mid-cycle refreshment instead. Unlike the previous mid-cycle update, this one will introduce more features, improved looks, and even some mechanical changes are about to happen. The small crossover will go on sale later in 2020, and its price will get a small increase.

2021 Kia Stonic Offers Smooth Design

Visually, the new 2021 Kia Stonic will mostly remain intact. However, the manufacturer will deliver minor updates. For instance, there are two new exterior colors, called the Azure Blue and Storm Grey. There will be up to nine different paints this time, which is great. You can combine these colors with the contrasting roof options, such as Zest Yellow, for example.

Stonic crossover offers nice-looking 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, but this feature is optional on the base trim level. Exterior features are the same, and we are only hoping to see a slightly longer list of standard equipment.

Interior Specs and Safety

New 2021 Kia Stonic comes with a large 8-inch touchscreen that is offered as standard. This unit comes with Display Audio and new sat-navigation. Moreover, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth are available too. The new feature is the UVO Connect telematics. This system delivers updates on weather, live traffic, and fuel prices. Furthermore, UVO Connect delivers on- and off-street parking information. Voice recognition is in the offer, and you can customize preferences via the “User Profile Transfer” system.

Another 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster is available, and it features new customization options. Kia will improve safety by improving the ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems). That means new Stonic crossover offers features such as forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assist. Additionally, blind-spot monitors and smart cruise control are available as well.

2021 Kia Stonic Engine and Transmission Specs

The most important upgrade on the 2021 Kia Stonic is its new mild-hybrid powertrain option. This system will combine 1.0-liter T-GDi turbo gasoline with a 48V configuration. Two different outputs are available, a 99 hp and 118 hp variants. Moreover, Stonic will produce up to 148 lb-ft of torque. Kia offers both seven-speed DCT and a six-speed manual transmission. According to South Korean manufacturer, new Stonic provides stronger performances than its predecessor, by 16 percent.

Both gearbox choices can be had with the engine-off driving system that improves fuel efficiency. As for the regular Stonic, this crossover offers a range of gasoline engines. The focus is on efficiency rather than power. For instance, a 1.2-liter with 83 horsepower is available, and it delivers superb fuel economy figures. Lastly, a five-speed manual transmission is not available anymore.
