2021 Jaguar XJ Spotted For The First Time

Recently, the British multinational car manufacturer announced that 2021 Jaguar XJ would be the all-electric successor of the current sedan. Now, we had a chance to see the first leaked photos of the new model. The first thing you’ll notice is that the rear end is different from the concept we saw last year.

Now, the electric sedan gets more XF-like taillights, which is quite the opposite of the teaser that showed a modern LED setup. Still, the front end doesn’t reveal much. But, we can see that the shape of the roofline and the high waistline are clear indications of the XJ’s sporty intentions. The overall design of the upcoming all-electric sedan will be very much straight forward, with universal styling and elegant appearance.

2021 Jaguar XJ Will Ride On A New Platform

The forthcoming 2021 Jaguar XJ will introduce all-new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA). This platform is built both for ICE and electric engines. The design of the electric sedan will be very similar to the one used on the redesigned XE.

We assume that it will satisfy the fans of the XJ model, especially with the changes at the rear end of the vehicle. The current version got some negative critics regarding the odd-looking taillights and blacked-out back pillar.

Furthermore, besides using the new platform, the new XJ will include a 90.2 kWh battery pack. This battery will provide up to 292 miles (470 km) of driving range. Also, the nex-gen electric setup brings up to four electric motors; each wheel will get one.

JLR’s Electric Future

The Jaguar Land Rover company stated that they’d develop a mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric variant od their forthcoming X-Series sedans. To be more specific, the automaker revealed that the MLA-based vehicles would include a 90.2 battery pack for a driving range of around 292 miles.

The same presentation shows a plug-in version, which will have a 13.1 kWh battery and an electric-only range of 31 miles (50 km). Moreover, the Jaguar Pace model will get a mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrain as well. Next, the F-Type will include a mild-hybrid and one standard drivetrain.

On the other side, the Range Rover and Discovery models deliver a mild-hybrid, electric engine, and plug.in hybrid version. But, the forthcoming Defender won’t follow this fashion. Even though almost every vehicle from the family will include the electric setup, the Defender will get only plug-in and mild-hybrid variants.

When Will 2021 Jaguar XJ Come Out?

The next-gen 2021 Jaguar XJ will be built at the carmaker’s Castle Bromwich plant in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, the electric I-Pace model will be produced in Austria by Magna Steyr. The company stated that the brand-new electric XJ would combine visually appealing design, exceptional performance, and a high level of luxury.

The JLR is upgrading the Bromwich factory to be capable of the production of the next-gen XJ. Therefore, we assume that the new model will be ready before the end of the year. The competition will be though since vehicles like Mercedes EQS will make a debut as well.
