The upcoming hybrid sedan from the Korean automaker comes loaded with new features. Certainly, 2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is an outstanding piece of work. Not only that the new model will include a ton of standard and additional equipment, but the dimensions will also be slightly different. That’s right, the Elantra will be a little longer, and wider a bit as well.
As a result, the cabin provides even more comfort and personal space than before. As for the equipment, let’s just mention the class-exclusive wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, phone-as-key tech, and large screens inside the vehicle. The forthcoming Elantra will be available later this year, while the production starts at Hyundai’s plant in Alabama in fall.
2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Design
2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid delivers the so-called ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language, which drives the exterior design more towards a four-door coupe-like appearance. The new model is just an inch lower, which will help to establish a more dominant look. However, the wheelbase is longer than you’ll find on similar vehicles, such as Honda Civic for example. Furthermore, the overall design looks very inspiring.
The jewel-pattern grille shows integrated turn signals, and at the same time, the grille helps to define the shape of headlights. The Korean company that the jewel-like shapes on the side and the hood’s rugged profile will accentuate the dramatic look of the vehicle. Also, the customers will choose between 15-, 16-, or available 17-inch wheels.
As for the backside of the Elantra, a brand-new taillight creates a signature that resembles the H logo. Moreover, the long horizontal line creates width at the rear as well.
As for the cabin, 2021 Hyundai Elantra comes with a design similar to the airplane cockpit The automaker stated that the design department tried to create an ‘immersive cocoon’ style for the interior. The most noticeable features are the two 10.25-inch screens, one for infotainment, and another for the gauge cluster. All trim levels will include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration which comes with the 8-inch infotainment display.
Furthermore, the standard active safety systems feature all the basics like automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, driver attention warning system, and automatic high beams for the headlights. Also, smart voice recognition is available, which controls the climate system, heating in the seats and more. The optional equipment adds a Bose audio system, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and wireless phone charging.
2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Powertrain
Under the hood of 2021 Hyundai Elantra will be a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle inline-four engine and 1.32 kWh battery pack. The combined output is good for 139 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Also, the estimated fuel economy will be 50 miles per gallon combined. The 6-speed dual-clutch transmission is available as standard, and it will provide quick shifting.
However, we would like to see continuously variable transmission instead, taking into account that the regular model uses the CVT. Well, the hybrid Elantra provides more torque and slightly less power. The regular mill produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque.
All in all, the upcoming model will offer probably the best fuel economy in the class, excellent handling as it rides on Hyundai’s new compact-car platform, and a good amount of power.
As we mentioned in the introduction paragraph, the 2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid should come later this year. The production shall kick-off at Hyundai’s plant in Alabama. However, the release date is not confirmed yet. The plant will be shut down for a bit, due to the coronavirus outbreak.
