2021 Hyundai 45 EV Spied Testing

Hyundai already offers a couple of battery-electric models such as Kona and Ioniq. However, the 2021 Hyundai 45 EV is another step forward for the South Korean manufacturer. The electric crossover will become the first model to utilize new E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform). Inspired by 45 concept, this model will look very modern and upright.

Its appearance is sporty, and 45 EV model takes a very athletic stance. The Interior will look futuristic, but don’t expect odd shapes and features. As for the performances, we expect plenty of power, a great driving range, and very fast charging. The sales should start in the first quarter of 2021, and its price will start at around $40k.

2021 Hyundai 45 EV Design Is Funky

First spy shots are already available. The 2021 Hyundai 45 EV looks surprisingly similar to the Audi A1 model. Of course, some parts are different, but its profile is almost the same. On the other hand, 45 EV comes with a clearer design, and its lines are crisper. Some other parts are more angular, and the overall result is a good-looking crossover. You can easily mistake this crossover for a hatchback. Its dimensions are small, and 45 EV will compete in the subcompact segment.

Just like on the concept, Hyundai 45 EV comes with sliding front and rear doors. The front fascia is recognizable, and Hyundai likes to call it a “kinetic cube lamp” design. As an all-electric vehicle, this crossover won’t offer large grille openings. Instead, the 45 EV model will offer subtle trim inlays and possibly a frunk under the hood.

High Level of Comfort

As for the interior, the new 2021 Hyundai 45 EV looks great. The cabin will borrow a lot of stuff from the original 45 concept. The materials are the same, and the manufacturer offers a high level of comfort. The upholstery looks both funky and retro. We like the wood accents on the dash and on the doors. Moreover, cotton upholstery is offered as standard, and it looks traditional.

However, the best part of the interior is a large display. A digital instrument cluster is modern and straightforward. Hyundai also offers an LED ambient lighting system, so it is a complete package. The interior offers different themes and color schemes. However, spy shots failed to provide a more detailed picture.

Engine Specs

Like the Tesla Model 3, the 2021 Hyundai 45 EV will offer a dual-motor configuration. That means a motor is placed on each axle, and the all-wheel-drive system should be offered as standard. On the other hand, the EV system will be taken from the Kona Electric variant. Thanks to that, we can expect a driving range of 310 miles. The batteries will be ranged from 75 to 100 kWh.

One of the best parts is the 350 kW DC charging capability. Thanks to that, you can charge your new 45 EV crossover in a short amount of time. As we said, Hyundai 45 EV will be the first brand’s model to deploy an E-GMP platform. Unfortunately, we are still waiting to see performance figures, transmission, and some other details.

2021 Hyundai 45 EV Price and Release Date

The price of the 2021 Hyundai 45 EV will start at about $40,000. It is a reasonable price given the cost of the Tesla Model Y, Skoda Enyaq, and other rivals. The sales will start early in 2021, while the production of the 45 EV model already started.
