The 2021 Honda Clarity is a model that can be had with either hydrogen fuel cell or a plug-in hybrid option. Clarity is a unique model that completely departs from the rest of Honda’s cars. It is a functional sedan that offers a quiet ride and a high level of comfort. We think this model is far from sporty, but its exterior is elegant and stylish.
Two powertrain options are available, and Clarity is full of standard and optional features as well. Interestingly, Honda discounted the EV model last year. For 2021, a new Clarity sedan won’t introduce major changes and updates.
2021 Honda Clarity Updates
The upcoming 2021 Honda Clarity will visually remain. The Japanese manufacturer won’t provide cosmetic upgrades of any kind. Clarity is a mid-size sedan that looks unique and modern. This model may look like a combination of the Honda Accord and Acura NSX versions. However, we think this sedan is on its own in terms of appearance.
It comes with beautiful body lines, and accents are simply amazing. Honda offers standard 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, which is great. Moreover, Clarity is available with standard LED headlights and LED taillights. However, this model still looks fresh, so further changes will happen beyond 2021.
Interior Is Comfortable
Like its exterior, the interior of the 2021 Honda Clarity is also elegant and modern. Comfort is great, and we like the arrangement of controls inside the cabin. The mid-size sedan provides a roomy interior, and front seats are especially comfortable thanks to a perfect shape that Honda delivers. Honda Accord offers a longer wheelbase, and Clarity comes with almost four inches less legroom. On top of that, cargo space is rated at 16 cubic feet with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
If you opt for a fuel-cell car, cargo space is rated at 12 cubic feet. Tech-wise, Clarity comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, and a new infotainment system. Touring trim level provides factory navigation and a 12-speaker sound system. As we said, Honda won’t improve cabin design for 2021.
2021 Honda Clarity Powertrain Specs
The forthcoming 2021 Honda Clarity is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. The electric motor generates 181 hp, while 17.0-kWh lithium-ion battery provides 48 miles of all-electric driving range. This sedan is still using a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a standard front-wheel-drive system. Clarity PHEV accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, and its total output is rated at 212 horsepower. Finally, the hybrid variant needs 2.5 hours to fully charge.
The second powertrain option is a fuel-cell version. It is a hydrogen-powered sedan with 174 hp, and the front-wheel-drive system is also available as standard. Acceleration is slightly lower, 8.1 seconds from 0 to 60 mph. This model offers 360 miles of the driving range or 68 MPGe.
Price and Release Date
The price of the upcoming 2021 Honda Clarity and its plug-in hybrid model starts at $35,000. Touring trim level is available for $38,000. If you want a fuel cell variant, you’ll need to pay up to $60,000. However, a plug-in hybrid version is an easier choice, not because of its price.
Interestingly, all 50 states in the U.S. are offering Clarity that you can buy or lease. Also, it is easier to recharge or refuel. On the other hand, fuel-cell Clarity is available in California, and Honda will lease you this sedan and give you $15,000 worth of fuel. The sales will begin in the last quarter of 2020.
