2021 Fiat 500e Electric City Car Spotted During Test Drives

2021 Fiat 500e Electric Spotted During Test Drives

The Fiat 500 is around for quite some time now. The production of the city car started back in 2007. During that time, it was redesigned several times, with adding a couple of ‘special edition’ versions along the way. N, the FCA is decided to develop a brand-new model that will replace this old soldier. On top of that, the upcoming vehicle will be an all-electric four-seat small city car, and it will be called 2021 Fiat 500e.

Last summer, we had a chance to see the first photos of the Fiat’s forthcoming EV. Compared to that prototype, we can notice some significant changes in the exterior design. For example, at the front, we can see protruding makeshift elements in front of the grille. Also, the headlight cutouts look a bit larger.

However, none of the spotted test vehicles includes exhaust pipes. Instead, the prototypes have EV charging ports in the place where the fuel filler cap is usually placed. Still, most of the front and rear parts of the vehicle are covered with black vinyl camouflage. Therefore, expect that most changes will occur right there.

As for the exterior design, the most noticeable features are the taillights with LED technology and the huge headlamps. Also, the front end is slightly reshaped in comparison to the regular Fiat 500 model. The previous photo leaks provided better insight into the cabin, while this time, the cabin is only partially visible. Still, we expect that Fiat won’t change anything too dramatically in this stage of development.

The all-electric version of the small city car delivers a redesigned dashboard, a new rotary gearshift lever, and a redesigned steering wheel. Worth to mention is that the previous spotted test vehicle includes buttons typical for the off-road vehicles, such as ‘4WD High’, 4WD Auto’, and ‘Axle lock.’ However, it’s not logical that the company will use the dual-motor or anything like that, not on a small hatchback.

Engine and Release Date

The forthcoming 2021 Fiat 500e will be built on FCA’s brand-new platform, specially developed for future electric cars. At the moment, it is too early to discuss the specs, since the company is still hiding them from the general audience. But, we can take a look at the previous version to see what we can expect. So, the 2021 500e will probably produce a bit more than 111 hp and 147 lb-ft of the predecessor.

Also, we hope that the driving range will top 84 miles. According to the sources, the Fiat’s all-electric model could make a debut in early March at the upcoming 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The release date is planned for the summer of 2020. Still, Fiat 500e won’t be available for the customers in the States before 2021. The precise release date for North America is still unknown.
