2020 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid work with a combination of electric motors and VTEC 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. This combination makes a total output of 212 hp. Furthermore, the overall driving range is increased to 340 miles ( 47 miles in electric-only mode). Most of the similar vehicles offer a far more limited range. Only the Tesla Model 3 can go above 300 miles, with the Long Range trim.
But, that model comes with a price above $49,000. Moreover, the high-voltage battery lasts longer and comes with excellent 8-year warranty. The charging will take approximately 2.5 hours with a 240-volt charger, and about 12 hours with a 120-volt outlet.
The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid includes four driving modes – Normal, ECON, Sport, and HV mode. The HV mode optimizes charging and can regenerate up to 50 percent of the all-electric range. The EPA fuel-economy gasoline-only range rating is 44 mpg city/40 mpg highway/42 mpg combined/ and 110 MPGe equivalent.
Release Date And Price
Unlike some of the main rivals from the segment, 2020 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid comes with a fair price. Also, the gap between the trims is significantly smaller. The base model comes with an MSRP of around $33,400. The Touring version will start at $36,600. Moreover, new Clarity Hybrid is eligible for a federal tax credit, up to $7,500.
On the other hand, Tesla Model 3 start slightly above $49,000. Of course, every model comes with Honda’s famous 8-year warranty. The official release date is still unknown. But, we expect that the vehicle will be ready for some major show, perhaps Chicago Auto Show in February.
